A student who is pursuing a career in teaching can accomplish this dream by taking up an education course in college. He can also get into a university; to earn a degree such as an associate, bachelor, masteral or even doctorate degrees.

The Associate of Arts in Teaching is a two-year degree awarded by colleges and universities in the United States; and most other countries in the world. It is the same as the foundation degree of the United Kingdom and France's diplôme d'études universitaires générales (DEUG).

Bachelor of Education is a degree taken by students who want to be a licensed teacher. Bachelor of Science in Education with a major subject is a more specialized course. Another specialization in education is teaching in the field of special education where in teachers would handle persons with specific requirements; such as persons with disabilities and the so-called gifted children. This is in a formal or non-formal system of education.

When a graduate in education pursue a higher level in his chosen field of education, he earns a Master’s of Arts in Education. Students can also choose counselor education, educational administration and guidance counseling. This is along with higher education and student affairs, adult education and preparation doctorate in education or philosophy.
